Rejuvenating the beer garden in Penzances oldest pub

Sourcing, growing and planting out to bring the beer garden back to life for the spring with whole range of local and exotic plants for charming summer flower displays and range of colored leaves for all year round.

Working at the Turks Head in Penzance has been a lovely experience. It's been a genuine pleasure to work with the landlord, who knows full well that the vibe and feel of a pub garden can make or brake a pub. Last summer, as the pub re-opened after changing hands, I had the chance to have a bit of fun ripping out a large portion of the original plants, leaving the palm trees and space to get to work. After re-vitilising the parched out soil with fresh new compost, we put in a mix of flowering annuals and perennials of impressive shapes and statures, half of which died back over winter. We took the seeds and tubers of these and have them ready for replanting when ready.

This year we've planted a lot more perrenials which the idea to display a wide range of color and texture with additional flowers and scents being the cherry on top the cake.

I am able to source plants at wholesale price and take care of them at my home nursery. These plants were put out in March and hardened off at home in preparation to being put out. After planting I laid the beds with landscape bark chippings to keep them looking smart and cut down on the need for weeding and watering.

I also sourced the succulents for the table planters which were all grown at home for a year from clone cuttings taken from a range of my mother succulent plants.

I am able so plan and source a range of shrubs, climbers, succulents, trees, hedges and flowering annuals for all my clients. I also grow my own stock from seed and cuttings.

Brush cutting to clear bramble patches

Brambles are too difficult to deal with by hand, that's why you need a brush cutter. I use a 56v battery powered bike-handled strimmer with a blade attachment for the quick and efficient annihilation of bramble patches. Ready for the burn.
