The recent storm brought about a wide array of damages to many properties and their adjacent gardens. One of which being the falling of many beloved trees and hedges.
We completely cleared this area in the timeframe of three working sessions. We first tackled the larger objects which hindered our establishment of an effective working area. Firstly we annihilated a patch of brambles capable of rebuffing a Russian invasion and then took out fallen trees and rendered them into smaller pieces for next year‘s firewood.
With the rest of the excess combustible bio waste and trees, we made a bonfire and threw in a damaged old fence panel, old bank statements, cardboard boxes and other bits of legally burnable garbage.
Burning garden waste is totally legal as long as you live within the confines of the beautiful Cornish countryside, this means that you will not be disturbing your neighbors by the smell and color of smoke arising from your garden bonfire.
We in total required two bonfires to completely burn all of the garden waste that was produced throughout the three sessions. As you can see in the images, the fires were quite large and the flames very hot.
When you burn garden waste, if it is fresh enough it will burn differently to dry wood. It will sizzle and pop and make high pitch noises as the juices are scorched out of the plant. It will also excrete a darker, heavier, and potentially more toxic smoke (at very close range) which you must be careful not to breathe in.
A pressure washer can acheive so many things. This amazing tool can clean the naturally occouring layers of outer scum from paving stones, concrete, walls, wood, glass and metal.
Brambles are too difficult to deal with by hand, that's why you need a brush cutter. I use a 56v battery powered bike-handled strimmer with a blade attachment for the quick and efficient annihilation of bramble patches. Ready for the burn.

We replaced the fungus ridden rotten old wood panels of the existing veggie beds and installed better, newer ones. We used recycled timber from the stockpile left over by the builders who had previously been at the house.
Weeding needs to be done to keep your prized beds beautiful and healthy. Chemical weeding is not a good option on beds, so a lot of work needs to be done by hand with tools like trowels, handforks and seccateurs
