Replacing fence posts

Fence posts become weakened over time and recent storms have brought damage to many of our clients fences. We spent a session ripping out rotten wood posts and installing new ones. Simple

A ball ache of a job

Replacing fence posts can be a challenging job. Taking out the fence panels seems fun compared to how rotten the fence posts can be. The panels simply need their screws taken out and can easily be lifted out of their slots.  The posts are usually around 6 ft in length with diameters or 10mm x 10mm and made from larch wood and are often anchored down into concrete which they've been well and truly bedded into.

Removing the underground post ends is very difficult. You have a very narrow window to apply pressure to and the wood is a very rotten and disgusting feeling and clinging onto its miserable static existence like a barnacle on a Newlyn crabber. We used heavy iron rods, crowbars and a system loaded with coffee and Cornish pasties to manually prize it all out.

Two miserable hours later we were back to doing funner things like re-inserting the fence panels and putting in the quick-drying post-crete to secure it into place. This like instant cement as it doesn't need to be mixed, but is more expensive.
